Robert Goldstein sentenced to 12 years, seven months behind barsThursday, June 19th
Robert Goldstein was sentenced to 12 years and seven months in prison. He faced a maximum of 15 years behind bars. Goldstein apologized to the Muslim community before being sentenced. He will be evaluated at a North Carolina psychiatric clinic before it's determined where he'll serve his time. Goldstein pleaded guilty in April to three counts: conspiracy to violate civil rights, attempt to damage religious property and obstruct persons from free expression of religious beliefs and possession of firearms not registered to him. Deputies arrested Goldstein at his home in August 2002 after receiving a domestic call from his wife, Kristi. Once inside, they found a cache of weapons and a detailed plan to destroy an Islamic mosque and cultural center. Kristi Goldstein was sentenced last week to 37 months in prison for her role in the plot.
